Only a few weeks left!!!

We drove by the new house this weekend to see that they were laying the flooring. It is so, so close to finished. Closer than I expected. And I think the next few weeks are going to fly by. I have so much to do!! Pack! Get rid of old stuff! Get some new stuff! Plan our window treatments! Pick out paint! Oh man, this is going to get overwhelming quickly.

I know we won't have too much money left over after we pay our down payment, so I'm trying to nab a few things here and there to ease the financial burden later.

One thing I bought is a new light fixture for the dining room. Those hideous stock gold chandeliers have GOT to GO! I picked this one up from overstock.com for $32! What a bargain.

Success!

I can't write much because I'm still struggling, only slightly recovering. But the abridged version is that the prom was off the hook! Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest, but if you check out the photos, you'll think I did. I managed to hide it well for a while.

I think everyone had a wonderful time! The decorations were great, thanks to my prom committee of Kay, Crystal, and Christina. The photos are outstanding, thanks to Christina. So I'll let them tell the story.

Check out all of the shenanigans here. It's pretty amazing.

Why?! Oh God, why?!

Tonight is the Indie Rock Prom, a party I've been anxiously awaiting for months. And Thursday I started developing a fever which has progressed to extremes today. When I woke up, my fever was 102.3, and it's been fluctuating all day. Why did this have to happen today! I honestly haven't had a fever this bad since the summer of 2000. How very nice that it made a comeback on "Prom" night.

I'm going to try to suck it up, take a ton of Maximum Strength Tylenol, and dance my way through the pain and dizziness.

In honor of Easter, a resurrection.

This really has nothing to do with Easter.

So last year I created a blog for all the stupid videos I took of Rob singing in the car. But after a few posts, I gave up. Well, I decided to bring it back because everyday he does something that just baffles me. And I have to share it with the blog-reading world. Things like being the only one to refuse the headphones at the Frida art exhibit because of germs. Or refusing to go to the fun cereal bar in town because he doesn't want people breathing on his milk.

So, presenting again, My Goofy Husband, the blog!

Jesus Park

Rob told me this morning that he read that some folks swear that they have the spear that pierced the side of Jesus during his crucifixion, and they can prove it with DNA. I wonder how they would do that. Too deep for my brain.

I think they should use the DNA like they did in Jurassic Park and make some cloned Jesuses. Okay, maybe it couldn't be a blockbuster movie, but I think it'd make one heck of a sitcom.

More Home Progress

Supposedly our home will be finished in six weeks. That doesn't leave much time to prepare! But the bad news is that they only give ONE WEEK notice on a closing date. Geez.

We went by on Saturday and took my parents to see it for the first time. Watching the progress is so exciting! I can't wait until they put the flooring in!

Mick Jagger was wrong!

I CAN get satisfaction.

So there has finally been some resolution to the "I've Been Robbed" scandal of 2008. After a few emails, I thought that I may have been ignored. But today, the co-publisher of the paper responded to my latest email, explaining how this was a unusual incident for them, and they fully support local artists and they consider themselves champions of the arts. And he agreed to pay my one-time usage fee.

That was much easier than I expected, and I am very appreciative of his level of concern and his willingness to correct the situation. So yay for them!

And yay for me! A graphic I made for my invitations earned me a chunk of money that will pay for a good portion of the party expenses. (If I get the check.)

Indie Rock Prom: Decorations

I went on a little Oriental Trading shopping spree today and picked up enough decorations to turn my basement into the prom of the century!

Strobe lights. Streamers. Balloons. Door Curtains. Hanging decorations. Thank goodness I have a whole prom committee coming early on the day of the prom to help me out with all this stuff!

My Dream Dress: Part II

For fear that my lovely Betsey Johnson dress will arrive the day before the party, only to realize that it doesn't fit, I decided to buy my 2nd eBay favorite...ya know, just in case. This one was actually very affordable, still below my original $40 budget. And I think this one also screams "Indie Rock Prom", in a different sort of way.

I don't know how well our Darrin's Dance Groovin' is going. I think the plan of a big choreographed dance might be out of the picture. I DID, however, manage to learn one of the dance sequences, but I perform it at about half the speed I should. *sigh* I was not meant to be in a crew.

My Dream Dress

Since the Indie Rock Prom is nearly two weeks away, I had to find a dress fast. Of course, nothing in a department store is going to do it for me. I thought about going to thrift stores and vintage shops, but it's tough finding the right size...since I'm kind of scrawny. So I checked the best place. Ebay!

Initially I was only searching for a "50's prom dress", but I was heartbroken when I lost an auction for a gorgeous poofy red strapless dress. So I kept searching. And for some reason, I decided to extend my search criteria to Betsey Johnson dresses. C'mon, if anything says "indie rock", it's Betsey Johnson!

There were some pretty amazing dresses on ebay, for good prices. A little outside of my budget (which I originally had at $40), but I have always wanted a Betsey Johnson dress. I figured this may as well be a good a time as any. Plus my paypal account was padded from some melissahead sales. It wouldn't really be like I was spending any money.

Then I found the perfect dress. It was like the first one I wanted. Poofy, red, strapless. But much funkier! Well, I just won it!!! So yeah, I spent three times what my initial budget was, but look at this amazing dress! So cross your fingers that it fits me. I can't wait to put it on!

What's wrong with me?

I just paid $27.03 for express delivery of this:

Kay, Crystal, Rob and I are going to make the sickest crew evah!

Melissa's Dance Grooves

Had an awesome weekend, just what I needed after a horrendous week. Saturday night, the lovely Christina invited us out to Beau Monde to celebrate her birthday. What a blast! We danced like crazy-folk, screamed a lot, and most likely annoyed every other patron in the place. But hey, that's what life is all about.

Then on Sunday, I admittedly went to see Step Up 2 with two of my gal pals. It was pretty amazing. Well, the dancing, at least. Can't say as much for the plot. It is now our mission to purchase a hip hop dance DVD (preferably Darrin's Dance Grooves) and learn a choreographed dance for the Indie Rock Prom.
